Volunteer in Romania

Local Time is:
We invite you to work with Global Volunteers to provide needed services in their host communities
of Tutova and Barlad.

Help nurture hospitalized children and to teach English to eager elementary and secondary school students. How we love and nurture today's children determines the character of tomorrow's world. Each one of us can make a difference.

Like parents the world over, we love our children very much. But we don't have all the resources we need to provide an optimal growth environment for children with health issues. The nursery staff at Tutova Hospital are loving and caring, but can get overwhelmed with the constant demands of caring for more than 40 vulnerable children.

This is where volunteers can really help. As a volunteer, you can help feed and care for the babies, giving them the stimulation, love, and nurturing that a parent would normally provide. Just playing with them will make a significant difference in their lives.

Volunteers can also provide an important service to English language students who need a great deal of practice reading, writing and speaking the language. Your role will be to get the students to actually apply their knowledge of English to everyday subjects.

You can help them build on their skills -- and on the work of the Global Volunteers who may have preceded you -- so that our young people have a chance to improve their futures as our country enters the European Union.

Meeting and talking to native speakers is critical for us, as it is difficult to find a good job without a strong command of English. This is an enormous change for our country, where only a short time ago, we could be prosecuted for even talking to a foreigner! Our local teachers alone cannot handle the demand by students to learn English.

Teaching and caring for children - and living among our people - will present you a rare insight into rural and urban Romania!

Fees are paid directly to Global Volunteers by each volunteer, and helps underwrite their local projects, and covers the meals, lodging, local transportation and team leader costs for each volunteer. These fees, which also cover the administrative costs of recruiting volunteers and maintaining the Tutova Hospital/Global Volunteers partnership, are tax-deductible for U.S. taxpayers.
